Based on initial observations from our own experiences, readings, and research, we developed the ecosynomic framework, which we are testing with deep assessments and surveys of groups.


  • There is a broad phenomenon emerging.
  • Our research has identified 25,000 groups experimenting with agreements based on principles of abundance, in contrast to scarcity-based principles.
  • We have worked closely with 161.
  • These groups are achieving far greater efficiency, effectiveness, innovation, and profitability than their peers, while simultaneously experiencing a much greater quality of life within the group.

Survey Findings

We have collected over 4,400 survey responses describing groups, large and small, from 125 countries, with 30% from the USA, 40% from Mexico, 12% from Germany, and 2% from South Africa.  To take the survey, click here, where you can take it one of the many different language versions (Afrikaans, Chinese, Dutch, English, Farsi, French, German, Gujarati, Hindi, Japanese, Norwegian, Russian, Spanish).

The results from this survey provide initial insights into questions currently guiding our exploration of the world of ecosynomics and harmonic vibrancy.  Three of these questions are:

  1. Is there a continuum of harmonic vibrancy experienced in groups?
    • We found that people describe very clear levels of abundance, harmony, and vibrancy they experience, from very low to very high.
    • This runs counter to the general experience people report of low vibrancy and scarcity in most groups.
  2. Are the relationships one has to the self, other, group, nature, and spirit related to the group’s experience of harmonic vibrancy?
    • The data shows that where people experience strong relationships (i.e., with themselves, others, the group, nature, and spirit), they experience them in ALL of the relationships.  Additionally, where ANY of the relationships are weak (low harmonic vibrancy), all of the relationships are weak.
    • The data also shows that there are over 600 groups that report very high levels of relationship and harmonic vibrancy.  The Institute is exploring what makes them sustainably different.
    • This finding runs counter to the belief that higher levels of health come from focusing on one of these relationships first, the core assumption of economics.
  3. Is the level of harmonic vibrancy a person experiences influenced by the quality of leadership in the group?
    • We found that the quality of leadership people experience in the group is directly related to the overall harmonic vibrancy experienced in the group.  The more the leaders are aware of and work with the group’s relationships to self, other, collective, spirit and nature, the greater the harmonic vibrancy experienced in the group.

Assessment Findings

To understand a group’s ecosynomic agreements and experience of harmonic vibrancy, we have developed an ecosynomics assessment.  Observing meetings, reading core documents, and interviewing members of the group, we are able to assess and reflect back both (1) where the group is, in ecosynomic terms, on their journey to higher harmonic vibrancy, and (2) the questions guiding their work.  You can see ecosynomic assessments of innovative, highly vibrant communities by clicking here.
